What is Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack)?
Heart attack, which is also known as myocardial infarction or coronary thrombosis, occurs when some part of the cardiac muscle dies due to oxygen deprivation. Among the factors increasing the risk of heart attack, advanced age (men over 45 and women over 55 are at higher risk), smoking, overweight or obesity, and the problem of high blood pressure can be listed. The ECG instrument records the signals on a paper so as to let your doctor see how your heart performs its function. This test is painless and lasts about 5 minutes. Beta blockers help in the protection of your heart after a heart attack. With the purpose of reducing the workload of your they make the heart beat more slowly and with less force. You can go on with your normal daily activities depending on your physical and mental state. However, it is essential that the activities you perform should not be very tiring or physically very challenging.
What is Angina Pectoris (Chest pain)?
It is a disturbing pain most frequently giving the feeling of pressure by a heavy stone on the chest behind the breastbone, where the pain site cannot be exactly localized and in some patients the pain can spread to the left arm, both arms, the back, upper abdomen and the neck. This pain is one of the most important and most frequently encountered symptoms of heart diseases. In cases where the arteries feeding the heart cannot meet its need for oxygen due to narrowing or blocking, heart-related chest pain or a feeling of discomfort occurs and this is called angina pectoris in medical terms or in Latin. Angina Pectoris especially occurring at rest can be a precursor of heart attack.
What is Aortic Aneurysm and Aortic Dissection?
Increase in intravascular pressure caused by high blood pressure, stiffness in the arteries and sudden trauma (traffic accident, etc.) rank among the most important reasons of aortic dissection.
